ALL BEGINNING OF AUGUST 

On 07 August 2024, the Professional Board for Social Work and the Professional Board for Child and Youth Care Work hosted a joint Workshop for skills development providers in collaboration with the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) and the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) on 07 August 2024 on the External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) of social auxiliary work, student social auxiliary work, student auxiliary child and youth care work and auxiliary child and youth care work. The workshop was attended by 214 social service professionals including skills development providers attended. During the period 01 to 09 August 2024, the SACSSP issued a total of 1,854 practice cards directly to registrants.  The SACSSP registered 25 social workers, 31 student social workers, 10 social auxiliary workers, 24 student social auxiliary workers, three child and youth care workers, 28 auxiliary child and youth care workers and eight student auxiliary child and youth care workers during this period and their names were entered into the Registers kept in terms of section 19 of the Act. A further 36 status of registration reports were issued to social workers and 15 verifications of qualifications obtained outside the country were completed in terms of section 17D of the Act. 

A total of 23 applications for CPD activities were assessed and approved. 

The Committee of Preliminary Inquiry (CPI) dealt with 12 complaints of alleged unprofessional or improper conduct lodged against social service professionals, of which 10 complaints were closed due to lack of evidence, one complaint was referred for an inquiry in terms of regulation 8 of the Regulations regarding the conducting of inquiries into alleged unprofessional conduct and one matter is still under investigation and pending submission of documents by the Respondent. On 1 August 2024 the Professional Conduct Committee conducted a disciplinary inquiry regarding a complaint of alleged unprofessional or improper conduct against an auxiliary child and youth care worker (Respondent). The Respondent was found guilty and a penalty in terms of section 22(1)(c) of the Act was imposed -  cancellation of his/her registration.
